Borneo 2017
My first trip as a teacher. This trip featured a week long stay in the untouched rainforest of Tang Olen, owned by the village of Setulang. This area of Primary rainforest was rich with all kinds of biodiversity, including those that keep you up all night. We also were treated to home-stays by the villagers of Setulang where we were spoiled with gifts and food. All throughout we bathed and swam in the warm waters of their river. |
Kenya 2015
Two more weeks camping across the parks of Kenya. We visited the Masai Mara, Samburu, Lake Naivasha, and Hell Gate. This time with even less facilities and no fence between us and the Lions and Elephants. This trip was the trip of cats, we saw Lions, Cheetah and Leopards and their babies! As part of being a student, I undertook a short research project, here I investigated the effects of group size on foraging behaviour in the Common Warthog. |
South Africa 2014
A two week camping field trip with lions and elephants! Early mornings and late nights meant that my days were field with game drives, research projects and we also sailed out to watch Great White Sharks. There was lots of being chased down in minibuses by elephants. |
Penbrokeshire, Wales 2013
For beaches, in my opinion nothing can beat Penbrokeshire. It's secluded location means it's huge beaches have remained untouched by restaurants, cafes and car parks, and films such as Harry Potter, Theif of Bagdad and Moby Dick have filmed there. While there we visited Stack Rocks, where guillemots and razor-bills can be seen on the huge stacks, covering the landmarks with either their bodies or their poop. Another trip was to the Bosherton lily ponds, were we saw, herons, huge trout, kingfishers, swans and geese, and there is also potential to see otters. A less natural attraction was the castle of Penbrokeshire, where Henry VII was born. |
